Benedetti Pines- Favorite Moments
One of my favorite memories, is the weekend that was
to be Steve's first experience of bow hunting deer. I
wanted it to be a good experience for him. I knew he
loved the out of doors, as much as I did.
Ed had invited us up for opening week-end and
showed us the nearby lay of the land. Ed had picked a
spot behind the cabin, that had a lot of deer traffic
crisscrossing a sloping hill, with lots of good cover.
We talked about where Steve's best chances would be
for a shot and went to work constructing two deer
blinds. One he could hunt in the morning and the
other, in the afternoon. Ed also told us how crazy the
deer were for sugar beets and corn. We set up Steve's
bait piles where he would have a clear shot from
either blind.
It turned out that the deer were still in the area alright.
Only it was always just before Steve had gotten there.
His bait piles were almost picked completely clean,
each time he had returned.
Steve didn't even get a shot that first week-end, but
what ever we did,.... it must have been right, because
he hasn't missed a deer hunting season since. Steve
went on to add rifle season to his deer hunting also.
As you can see, from his deer hunting story with his
uncle Marv, Steve finally got his first and second deer
with a rifle. However, Steve is still looking for his first
deer kill with a bow.
I will always be eternally grateful to Ed and Marion, for
making that weekend possible and a success. Not to
mention, for all the other great weekends of hunting
since.
Thanks Ed, and I know you have been there with
Steve, on every one of them.
